Sometimes i only check those i watch though since some lead me to amazing artists and their art leave me breathless, but i haven't done this for some time now. This explains why it's so hard to keep track of more than 80 people i watch poor inbox it gets flooded every week
it depends on how much time i have. i only get internet at the library & they have time limits on all the computers. if i could, i'd look at other's fave lists more often because i feel it's a good way to get to know people.
When I find a talented artist, I will add them to my devWATCH. I'll add an artist to my devWATCH it is because I am impressed with their skill, style, originality or all of the above. The first thing I do is browse and enjoy their gallery. The second thing I will do is browse their favorites. Whether ti is something that inspires or influences them in some way, or something they simply enjoy or are in awe of.
I have found some amazing artists simply by browsing through the favs of other equally amazing artists. Favs I have found is the most useful tool to finding new outstanding artists and artwork.
When I stumble upon a great artist, I'm always checking his or her faves too. I want to see what are their influences and inspirations and it's IMHO the best way to find new wonderfully tallented people to watch and learn from. ..and usually I ended with deviantart tab explosion. SO MUCH ART SO LITTLE TIME~
Randomly. If I'm bored. Or if I'm looking for a style of art, I'll see if someone who does art in that style has similar favorites. Same for subject matters. Or if it's been a slow day. Or something. Impulse. Whim.
But other people's favorites are a fantastic way to find artists!
